About the Role

J.L. Motorace Ltd is looking for a hands-on Software Developer to support the company's software development projects, with a primary focus on developing, maintaining, and supporting our Magento platform across multiple websites.

This role combines frontend and backend development with daily technical support, store catalogue maintenance, and monitoring of scheduled tasks and server health. Strong PHP development skills are essential.

The successful candidate will work closely with management to understand business needs, resolve technical issues, and deliver reliable, user-friendly improvements to our websites and internal systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Magento Development & Support: Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot our Magento multi-website environment, including website configurations, themes, extensions, and integrations.
• Frontend & Backend Development: Build and improve website functionality using PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3, ensuring responsive layouts and a consistent customer experience.
• Database Management: Work with MySQL or MariaDB to support application functionality, investigate data issues, and improve query performance and data integrity.
• Cron Job Monitoring: Ensure scheduled jobs run as expected, investigate failures or delays, and resolve issues affecting essential Magento processes.
• Server Health Monitoring: Monitor server availability, resource usage, application logs, and performance; investigate issues and coordinate with hosting or technical providers when required.
• Store Catalogue Maintenance: Maintain Magento products, categories, attributes, attribute sets, and website assignments, supporting accurate catalogue data and imports or exports.
• Code Quality: Write clean, secure, maintainable code; test changes thoroughly and maintain clear technical documentation.
• AI-Assisted Development: Use Claude CLI or similar AI coding tools to support development and troubleshooting, reviewing and validating generated code before use.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay current with web design trends, Magento developments, and relevant technologies, and recommend practical improvements to management.
• Project Collaboration: Support company software projects, communicate progress clearly, and prioritise tasks according to business needs.

Skills & Requirements

• PHP proficiency is a must.
• Practical experience developing and supporting Magento, including multi-website environments.
• Good knowledge of JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Experience with MySQL or MariaDB databases.
• Ability to work across both frontend and backend development.
• Familiarity with cron jobs, server monitoring, logs, and technical troubleshooting.
• Experience maintaining Magento store catalogues, including products, categories, and attributes.
• Familiarity with Claude CLI or similar AI coding tools and the ability to critically review their output.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to code quality.
• Ability to organise priorities, work independently, and communicate effectively with management and colleagues.
